Quando è perché hai iniziato a fotografare?

Ho iniziato a fotografare durante il mio ultimo anno di liceo. Direi che sono un collezionista o comunque qualcuno che cataloga. L’ho sempre fatto, più o meno da quando sono nato. La fotografia mi ha dato modo di fare questo, con i posti in cui sono stato, la gente che ho conosciuto, etc.

Hai una formazione professionale e, se sì, pensi che sia fondamentale averne una per poter fare carriera nel campo della fotografia?

Attualmente sto studiando fotografia all’Art Institute di Boston. Non credo sia importante una formazione nel senso tradizionale del termine. Ma credo che sia sicuramente importante circondarsi di altri artisti.



Ci sono fotografi particolari che ti ispirano, a parte Elliott Erwitt che direi ovvio?

Walker Evans, Robert Frank, William Christenberry, Alec Soth ispirano la mia fotografia. 

Perché hai deciso di lavorare sulla relazione tra uomo e cane, e come programmi il tuo lavoro?

La lealtà e la devozione che il cane dimostra come animale da branco riassume l’ideale umano di amore e compagnia. Naturalmente, questo ha fatto sì che nell’immaginario umano gli animali diventassero parte della famiglia e che i cani identificassero i loro compagni umani come parte del loro branco.
A parte questioni logistiche, programmo poco nel mio lavoro. Quando ho deciso che tipo di foto voglio fare, scatto.



Conosci la gente che fotografi, oppure sono sconosciuti?

La gente che fotografo spazia da persone che conosco da anni a completi sconosciuti che hanno risposto al mio annuncio messo su Craigslist.org.

Qual’è la tua storia con gli animali?

Sono stato circondato da loro per tutta la mia vita.

Perché ti concentri soprattutto sul pit bull? Ha un significato particolare per te?

Non c’è razza canina più leale con l’uomo del pit bull.



Ho trovato le tue foto su f-stop magazine, così ho dato un’occhiata al tuo blog: ho trovato solo la tua serie in lavorazione sulla relazione uomo-cane. Quali sono i tuoi lavori precedenti, se ce ne sono? Che connessione hanno con il lavoro attuale?

Il mio lavoro ha sempre investigato un gruppo specifico di persone che hanno una vita comune. Skaters, proprietari di cani, etc.

Hai qualche progetto per l’immediato futuro?

Sto lavorando su un paio di cose, attualmente. Ma in realtà sto principalmente cercando di imparare un po’ di HTML, in modo da continuare a costruire il mio sito AdamJasonCohen.com.





When and why did you start to photograph?
I began to photograph in my senior year of high school. I would consider myself a collector or someone who catalogs. I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. Photography gave me a way to do this, with the places I've been, the people I have met, etc.

Have you a professional training and, if so, do you think it is fundamental to have a career in the field of photography?
I am currently studying photography at the Art Institute of Boston. I don't necessarily believe training in a traditional sense is important. I do, however, believe it is important to surround yourself in a community of artists. 

Are there any particular photographers that inspire you, apart from Elliott Erwitt, which I would say obvious?
Walker Evans,  Robert Frank ,William Christenberry, Alec Soth inspire my photography. 

Why did you decide to work on the relationship between human and dog, and how do you plan your work?
The loyalty and devotion that the canine demonstrates as a pack animal, resembles the human idea of love and companionship. Naturally, this has led to humans viewing their pets as part of their family, and dogs identifying their human companions as part of their pack. Little planning goes on with my work aside from logistical issues. When I am on a shoot that is when I decide what photographs I am going to make.

Do you know the people you photograph, or are they completely strangers?
The people I chose to photograph range from people whom I've known for years to complete strangers who responded to my ad I placed on Craigslist.org.

What is your story with animals?
I have been surrounded by them my entire life.

Why do you concentrate your attention especially on the pit bull dog? Does it have any particular significance for you?
There is no breed of dog as loyal to man as the pit bull.

I found out your photographs on f-stop magazine, and than snooped your blog; I just saw your on going series about human-dog relationship. Which are your previous works, if there are? And what connections they have with the current one?
My work has always investigated a specific group of people that live a common life. Be it skateboarders, dog owners, etc.

Have you any projects for the immediate future?
I'm working on a couple things right now. But, I am really trying to teach myself some HTML so I can continue to build my website AdamJasonCohen.com.
